Aaron Berg - Principal and Founder
Aaron has been on the forefront of carbon accounting and clean energy finance since founding Blue Tree in January 2008. Entrepreneurial engagement and innovation in the areas of environmental sustainability and triple bottom line economics are the foundations of Blue Tree. We envision that the definition of economic success needs to change in order to move from an extraction and fossil fuel based economy to one that is more sustainable and vibrant for our communities and the natural world. Primarily, there is a need for greater transparency and accounting for impacts that have historically been treated as externalities to business behavior like CO2 equivalent emissions.
Prior to founding Blue Tree, Aaron worked in commercial lending with ShoreBank Enterprise Cascadia underwriting commercial debt transactions in organic agriculture, renewable energy, real estate and construction industries. Prior to this Aaron worked for five years in public accounting for Portland based Perkins & Co. He also reviewed over 40 books on sustainability and business for Sustainable Industries Magazine and served as Financial Manager of the publication in 2008.
He holds a BA in Business Administration & Accounting, Cum Laude, from the University of St Thomas in St Paul MN. Outside of work he enjoys time with friends and family over good food & drink, especially a summer bbq. He also enjoys many outdoor activities depending on the season. Once upon a time, he lived in Homer Alaska working in the halibut sport fishery and as a carpenter.
